The update boasts some great new features and a stylish new look with a more functional, user friendly interface. Here we count down 10 features of iOS 10 that you may not have known about.
Thank you, Mr Jobs!
10. USE THE CAMERA AS A MAGNIFYING GLASS
Ever in need of seeing small text close up, but don’t have a magnifying glass to hand? Well, seeing as we all have our phones on us 24/7, the new iOS 10 update allows you to use your iPhone’s camera as a magnifying glass. Simply head to Settings > General > Accessibility > Magnifier and toggle it to “On”. To activate, simply tap the home button three times in succession to open up the camera but with extra magnifying properties that you can adjust to easily read that pesky small text you had to squint at before!
9. SEND LOW QUALITY PICTURES IN MESSAGES
Here’s one for those low on data or wanting to watch their bandwidth! Always needing to send your friends the latest memes or stupid pictures? Well, now you can and not waste nearly as much data as you would have previously with this new feature on iOS 10. To use this feature all you need to do is tap Settings > Messages and click the “Low quality image mode” tab, and make sure it’s green. Now you are able to spam your friends for longer without wasting any of your monthly data, or paying over the odds for MMS deliveries!
8. IN BUILT IMAGE SEARCH
Remember all those GIF keyboard apps we had to download to search and send images to our friends with ease? Well, it looks like we don’t need them anymore, with iOS 10’s release seeing the introduction of a new image search function already inbuilt on the iPhone. This one is really easy to find and all you need to do when writing a message is to tap on the App Store icon, go over to the Images page and from there either input a search term or choose a category from the list provided. Happy picture sending!
6. CLOSE ALL TABS QUICKLY
With great updates come great accessibility, and with iOS 10 firmly winning over a lot of people since it’s inception, the new quick close feature is one of those simple ones that has seemed necessary for quite a while. Not only does Apple’s browser Safari allow you to load unlimited tabs to browse at your leisure, but you are now able to close all tabs simultaneously for the first time ever! To activate, just hold down the “Tab View” button and simply click “Close” to get rid of all your tabs at once.
5. ENABLE TOUCH TO UNLOCK
If you’re fed up with physically touching the home button to get your phone unlocked then iOS 10’s update has the solution for you. The update allows iPhone users to unlock their phones by simply placing their fingers on the ID Touch Sensor. This is activated by doing the following : Settings > General > Accessibility > Home Button, then just click “Rest Finger to Open”. This one’s for you, lazy iPhone users!
4. NEW LOOK FOR THREADED CONVERSATIONS
Mail has been able to thread the conversations for quite a while now, however, the introduction of iOS 10 sees a neater, sleeker new look, if you so wish! The upgrade allows you to select different messages from within the thread, without the need to leave the messages. To set up this feature for your Apple device simple go to your Settings > Mail > Threading. From there you can customise the display order of all of your messages.
3. TURN READ RECEIPTS ON/OFF FOR INDIVIDUALS
Are you one of those people that doesn’t always want someone to see that you’ve read their messages, so you’re not inclined to text them back? Well, me too, and this new iOS 10 feature is very helpful if you’re avoiding that annoying someone, or simply want to be left in peace. This update from Apple allows you to turn off read receipts for anyone you choose, and to give this feature a go all you need to do is, whilst in a conversation, click on the “i” button which is in the top right hand corner and click turn read receipts either on or off. An easy way to get some peace… or not!
2. AUTO DOWNLOAD ALBUMS FROM APPLE MUSIC
Whilst this feature doesn’t save a whole ton of time, it is useful for those music lovers who want to download the latest releases from Apple Music without having to click “+” add and downloading it manually. iOS 10’s release means that Apple users are now able to automatically download them to your music account, follow these simple steps to activate. Settings > Music > Download and set the “Automatic Downloads” icon into the on position. Happy listening!
1. UNSUBSCRIBE FROM EMAILS WITH A SINGLE CLICK
Always getting annoying spam from websites that you er… accidentally signed up for years ago? Never fear, iOS 10 has a really cool new feature that allows you to unsubscribe from those pesky mailing lists, so you no longer have to wade through a ton of nonsensical emails before you can read the important ones! This is possibly the second most easiest feature to activate on this list and all you need to do to unsubscribe from those emails is, whilst in the email you no longer want to receive updates from, simply click on the “Unsubscribe” tab at the top of the email. Simple as that. Goodbye, pesky spam!
